Here are some of the strongest hurricanes in recorded history. HURRICANE KATRINA Often referred to as the costliest natural disaster to have ever hit America. Hurricane Katrina was the third strongest hurricane in the history of America, most of you guys have probably heard about this hurricane and if you haven't then you have been living under a rock. Happened in 2005, Hurricane Katrina is one of the deadliest natural disasters that took place in the recent history of America. Calling it the costliest natural disaster to ever hit America would not be a lie when it did property damages of over $125 billion. THE GREAT HURRICANE OF 1780 Also known as the Huracan San Calixto or Hurricane of Antilles. This hurricane is the deadliest hurricane recorded in history with deaths ranging between twenty-two thousand to twenty-seven thousand people. Specific values of strength and track of the hurricane are unknown because the official Atlantic hurricane database does not go as far back as 1780, but it was likely a hurricane of the highest category. HURRICANE PATRICIA OF 2015 If you take your hand out of your car window at a speed of merely 60 kilometers per hour your hands can’t really endure it, now imagine how would a hurricane of 345 kilometers per hour feel like? Yes, you heard us right, Hurricane Patricia that took place in 2015 is the winner when it comes to the strongest hurricane in terms of wind speeds. HURRICANE JOHN The notorious hurricane John not only holds the record for the longest-lasting hurricane but it is also the farthest traveling hurricane in history. It started out on August 11, 1994, and lasted for thirty-one days. Despite it being the longest-lasting hurricane and a Category 5 one it did not really do much damage and fatalities. HURRICANE IRMA Hurricane Irma was the longest-lasting most intense hurricane ever recorded in the world with winds of 285 kilometers per hour lasting continuously for thirty-seven hours. It cost fifty billion dollars in terms of damage to America. The hurricane lasted for twelve days which is not that remarkable as we have seen worst in the past but what makes it special is that it maintained a very high intensity of 285 kilometers per hour continuously for thirty-seven hours. HURRICANE DORIAN The most recent hurricane on the list is hurricane Dorian which quickly climbed the list of the worst natural disasters ever to hit the Bahamas. The hurricane started out in the August of 2019 and lasted for about half a month making it one of the longest lasting hurricanes of the recent years. The hurricane got classified as Category 5 and left 43 people dead and did millions in damage. HURRICANE MITCH It might not have received as much as international media coverage as the American hurricanes did, but this hurricane which originated in Honduras can easily be called one of the strongest hurricanes in history with the fatalities and destruction exceeding some of the well known hurricanes. This slow moving hurricane caused approximately eleven thousand deaths with thousands missing and destroyed most of the country’s infrastructure and crops.
